DanceWorks provides students with an exciting performance experience through our VCBSpring Ballet, June Showcase & Nutcracker. Annual performances conjure up images of childhoods and unforgettable memories for many. It is a rite of passage for thousands of children and young adults and a chance to shine in front of family and friends. DanceWorks showcase allows each student to present their families and friends the result of a year’s hard work, dedication and progress. Along with the chance to perform for an audience, the showcase is a learning experience and training process. The experience helps to build self-esteem, self-assurance and contributes to a sense of confidence.
Although performing opportunities help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they also contribute to success in non-dance activities. That onstage experience gives students a confidence which results in better classroom presentations, improved social skills and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. The rehearsal process can be a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as part of a team to create the best end result.
You are given a set time to arrive at dress rehearsal and all younger students rehearse in the afternoon. Each number gets run twice and then you are free to leave. If you are the parents of a young student you will not be required to stay late into the evening at dress rehearsal. All students ages 3-6 are in daytime shows. Shows are at 10am, 1pm and 4pm. Older students who take once a week perform in the Saturday 7pm show. This show lasts approximately one hour.
Group and individual pictures are taken at the dance studio prior to the showcase. You are given a set time to have your picture taken. We do not take pictures at dress rehearsal. Dress rehearsal is the time to focus on our performance and becoming familiar with the stage. All schedules for pictures, dress rehearsal and performances are given out in April. This gives parents plenty of time to plan and invite all your family members to come see your star!
DanceWorks has 2 fees for showcase participation: Fees are spread out between January and March, and there are optional fundraisers throughout the year.
