Scholarships

Each year, DanceWorks Performing Arts & Vancouver City Ballet gives out over $20,000 in dance scholarships. Information on how to apply will be posted at the studio the week following spring break, prior to application deadline.

FRIENDS OF DANCEWORKS WA NONPROFIT SCHOLARSHIP

Friends of DanceWorks WA is a registered 501c3 scholarship for the young dancers & performing artists in the DanceWorks family. This scholarship is completed by the student and only accepted between Jan 1st & March 1st of each new year. Full information and application for current year can be found at FriendsofDanceWorks.com

DANCEWORKS NEED BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

Need based scholarships are given out to students who show impeccable class attitude & potential. Please ask the front desk at DanceWorks for more information.

ANNIE FRANKLIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

in honor of a fellow dancer who is no longer with us. This award is a year of unlimited dance classes at the studio.

MOLLY MAYO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

in memory of an amazing young women who danced for many years at DanceWorks and her spirit will always be remembered. This award is a year of Jazz, Lyrical or Contemporary classes at the studio.

ALEXANDRIA DEPRIZIO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

in honor of a special student who passed away in 2014 and who loved ballet and her time at the dance studio. She will always be remembered. This award is a year of unlimited ballet classes at the studio.

CONVENTION SCHOLARSHIPS

In addition, DanceWorks & Vancouver City Ballet also awards NYCDA & Tremaine Convention Scholarships each year to students who have shown dedication, hard work and promise during the dance year. These are all awarded at our June Showcase.

Annie Franklin Memorial Scholarship Rules 2018

-Students ages 3-5 need to submit a dance related drawing along with an essay of 100 words or less (written by their parent or guardian) stating why you love to dance. We want to know what makes you excited about dancing and why you think DanceWorks is a great place to take your lessons.
-Students ages 6-9 and 10-12 need to write an essay of 100 words or less and ages 13+ an essay of 500 words or less stating why you love dance. We want to know what makes you excited about dancing and why you think DanceWorks is a great place to take your lessons. For ages 6 and older, the entrant must write an essay themselves and submit it in their own hand writing. TYPED ESSAYS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Please make your essay neat and legible.
-Entrants need to be current students of DanceWorks Dance Center for the 2018-2019 dance year.
-One scholarship for one full year of unlimited dance classes will be awarded in each age category. Scholarships do not include the following: annual registration fee, private lessons, competition choreography fees, company classes, company rehearsals, competition entry fees, convention fees, costumes and showcase fees.
-Entrants must not include their name on their essay but on a separate sheet provided by the studio that that is to be attached to the essay.
-Winners will be selected by a panel of educators and essays will be given to the judges without students names on so if a judge happens to know a student entering the contest they can still be impartial.
-Essays must be received at DanceWorks by May 25th 2018.
-Winners will be awarded scholarships at the June 23rd Showcase.
-Winners give DanceWorks Dance Center/Vancouver City Ballet permission to use their photos and essays in advertising and publicity.
-DanceWorks Dance Center/Vancouver City Ballet reserves the right to use portions of any entrant’s essay in studio advertising and publicity.
-Scholarships must be used for the 2018-2019 school year. If a student discontinues class before the end of the school year, no cash value or credit for the remainder of the lessons will be given. Previous winners of this scholarship are eligible to enter again after five years.
