Industry guest lecturers and a Musical Theater portion incorporating dance, drama, and sometimes vocal training. The one week dance intensive trains for the triple threat dancer. Junior dancers get the same teachers as Senior/Teen dancers. Mini and Rock Star take a combined intensive.

How long is Summer Intensive?

Each year is different. Past years dancers start the day with two hours of ballet followed by lunch break. Afternoon classes comprise of guest teachers and staff from NYC and Seattle. Past faculty have included Broadway performers, LA choreographers and top studio owners. Students also work on a singing portion for their show. All dancers must participate in the musical class of Summer Intensive.

I’ve been dancing a couple of years, should I sign up?

DanceWorks Summer Intensive in not for beginner level students. Dancers should be prepared to be dancing seven hours each day. So it’s important to take care of yourself during intensive weeks. Resting, using a foam roller and getting good sleep are all important to having a successful two weeks of classes. No refunds will be given to anyone after the first day of class. If you are looking for something a little be easier, try looking at our Summer Class Schedule. If a Junior after day one would like to move down a level due to difficulty, accommodations can be made.

Intensive is open to DanceWorks and all dancers in the Vancouver, Portland area. Spaces do sell out quickly.  Parents & dancers can call DanceWorks 360.892.5664 for more information. Correct level placement is important to having a good two week summer intensive. Dancers are welcome to try a trial dance class during the regular dance season.
