DanceWorks Performing Arts
DanceWorks provides students with an exciting performance experience through our VCB Spring Ballet, June Showcase & Nutcracker. Annual performances conjure up images of childhoods and unforgettable memories for many. It is a rite of passage for thousands of children and young adults and a chance to shine in front of family and friends. DanceWorks showcase allows each student to present their families and friends the result of a year’s hard work, dedication and progress. Along with the chance to perform for an audience & included in their performance fee, dancers will receive five complimentary tickets to the performance, a HD Digital Download of the show as well as a Souvenir t-shirt & Program with their picture.
Although performing opportunities help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they also contribute to success in non-dance activities. That onstage experience gives students a confidence which results in better classroom presentations, improved social skills and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. The rehearsal process can be a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as part of a team to create the best end result.
Our Spring Ballet is divided between two different Ballets. A Junior Ballet performance on Saturday and Senior Ballet performance on both Friday & Saturday. Comprised of beautiful backdrops and costumes, Junior Ballet dancers perform in a one hour show which showcases their work, technique & skill learned throughout the year. Senior Ballet dancers showcase a full length Ballet comprised of pointe technique, variations and Pas de Deux from classical repertoire.
Created in 2013 by Karen Cannon as a way to give back to the greater Southwest Washington area, Friends of DanceWorks a 501c3 non profit scholarship organization produces The Nutcracker, an optional show open to all members in the Vancouver dance community. Known as Vancouver’s largest production comprised of beautiful dance, special effects and magic. It is a Vancouver tradition and a must see every December. All proceeds go to scholarships enabling dancers to further their dance training. To date, Friends of DanceWorks has awarded over $25,000 in scholarships.
