Friends of DanceWorks WA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing performing arts education opportunities through dance training, vocal arts, musical theater scholarship and performance related financial assistance, to youth ages 3-18 in Clark County Washington. FAQ

How does Friends of DanceWorks connect to DanceWorks classes or Vancouver City Ballet?

The primary purpose of Friends of DanceWorks WA, as a nonprofit entity, is to act as a funding mechanism to provide student scholarships, financial aid assistance for performance opportunities and to assist in the cost of continual student and teacher education for the Clark County area.

How & when do I apply?

Our application can be downloaded from danceworksperformingarts.com and are only accepted between January 15th thru March 1st. Finished applications can be dropped off to the receptionist desk at DanceWorks. No digital applications will be accepted via email. 

Can anyone apply?

Yes. If an applicant is not currently enrolled in class at DanceWorks or Vancouver City Ballet a letter of recommendation will be asked for by a non related community member. 

Where can I find all the rules and requirements?

All rules and requirements are listed on the last page of the downloadable application. 

Is there a cap on how much money i can ask for/be awarded?

At this time there is no current cap on the amount an applicant can ask for/be awarded. Both full and partial scholarships may be awarded and decisions are based on financial need and availability of funding. 

Do I need good grades to apply?

In order to maintain a scholarship with Friends of DanceWorks WA, students must maintain a GPA no less than 2.5 and attach a copy of their most recent report card to date to the application.

Who reviews/approves the application and the amount asked?

The Friends of DanceWorks board of directors approves all applications during the month of March. 

When can I receive the funds that were awarded to me?

If the student is selected to receive a scholarship, Friends of DanceWorks WA will issue the scholarship amount after all registration costs for [name of event/program] have first been paid by student or family. Friends of DanceWorks WA will issue the scholarship only after the student has provided proof of registration and receipt of registration costs to Friends of DanceWorks WA. 

Can I apply for a scholarship for Nutcracker?

Scholarships will NOT be accepted for anything related to Nutcracker as it’s our main fundraiser for the year. 

I have brothers and sisters who both want to apply, can we all apply if we live in the same household?

Yes, there is no limit in applicants per household. Just one application per person, per year.
